Overview Programs Repertoire

Overview

Cameron’s repertoire includes concertos with different types of ensembles, acoustic and electroacoustic works for solo percussion, pieces for percussion duo, and an extensive list of chamber music. He is available to perform as a soloist with both large and small ensembles, and offers three structured solo programs that range from acoustic to entirely electroacoustic. His acoustic and mixed programs are presented in a more traditional recital format, while the electroacoustic show contains two halves that run continuously for an engaging, modern concert experience. Specific repertoire requests are welcome, and programs can be individually tailored as needed. Duo and/or ensemble pieces can be added with advance planning and preparation.

seven short stories...

is a collection of musical moments that explore the possibilities of percussive storytelling. While there is no single, overarching narrative throughout, each piece serves as a point of departure to a different time, place, reality, or culture. The program begins with Emmanuel Sejourne's Prelude No. 1, a passionate yet solemn work that contrasts melodic outbursts with hushed chorales. Burritt Variations, a tour de force for marimba, raises the energy with its driving rhythms, polytemporal illusions, and signature Latin American flair. Releasing the tension is Blues for Gilbert, an emotional vibraphone solo dedicated to the composer's late teacher. The first half closes with the dramatic Le corps à corps, which uses a Persian hand drum, French text, and theater to depict a tragic racing accident. The second half opens with Mirage, a fiery staple of the Japanese marimba repertoire that draws inspiration from the dadaist poetry of Chuya Nakahara. The penultimate piece, Hugo Morales' Lu, demonstrates the peculiar timbres of a prepared vibraphone, giving way to Asventuras, a virtuosic finale that uncovers the many colors of a single snare drum.

INTER(RE)ACT...

is an evocative program of conversations and dialogues for solo percussion, expressing emotions both obvious and abstract that connect deeply with an audience. True to its name, the performance is made up of interactive and reactive elements, mixing theater, electronics, spoken word, and improvisation for an immersive concert experience. In addition to its overall theme, INTER(RE)ACT has a diverse instrumentation and array of styles that represent the very best of the modern percussion repertoire, inviting new and experienced listeners alike to take away something musically meaningful.

ELISION...

takes the audience on an exhilarating journey through the sonic landscape of electroacoustic percussion music. The performance focuses on the relationship between live and recorded sounds, which interact in different ways to expand the timbral spectrum of acoustic instruments. The electronics take on many roles throughout the program, by working cooperatively with, in opposition to, or completely independent of the performer. This fluctuating duality is precisely what defines the production, presenting twists and turns through moments of musical athleticism, comedy, and repose. ELISION runs continuously from beginning to end, features fully integrated electronics and effective stage transitions, and provides an accessible entry point for a very wide audience.
